10 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
It's a laptop war at the moment, with so many covetable laptops being released over the past few weeks (Asus Eee PC 1000, Asus M70, Sony VAIO Z series). It's Toshiba's turn this week, with the announcement of the lightweight, limited edition Portégé M800 Lappy. Is anyone else getting a Macbook vibe too? It packs a 13.3-inch WXGA screen for nice picture clarity, 1GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, a DVD SuperMulti drive and an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam. That's not all. See after the jump for more

Clean your keyboard with goop
11 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
The word goop connotes all kinds of sticky icky images and substances, or the kind of stuff you find in kids games like Beware of the Bog and Creepy Crawlers toys. But cleaning keyboards definitely isn't one of them. That's all going to change once you've read this. The Swiss goop, also known as Cyber Clean, is a thick slab of slime you roll around your keyboard to get rid of all those food particles that didn't make it into your mouth. It collects all the other crap too that falls into your keyboard too, like bitten off fingernails, fluff, dust and the remains of whatever else you hover over your keyboard. While it's busy doing that, its germicidal surface gets rid of those nasty germs on your filthy plague-ridden keyboard. Give your keyboard a detox

Shareware dresses: Geek fashion gone wrong
12 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
A creation like this brings me back to the old adage, '
Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should'. True, the fact that these two odd looking pieces of foam slot together and activate 'atmospherics pools of light' is pretty impressi

The rough and ready Motorola Adventure V750
13 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
This is one for our American friends I'm afraid.
Verizon Wireless and
Motorola have announced the Motorola Adventure V750 clamshell. And based on its design, it sounds like you could definitely take this on any kind of adventure - it's well prepared for anything you throw at it (literally). The Push to Talk phone has been designed with sturdy and durable materials and it even meets military specifications for extreme conditions. These extreme conditions include shock, drops, vibrations, dust, solar radiation, high temperature storage and altitude. It's aimed at the highly active and mobile individual and it sounds like it can withstand all the knocks and bumps it receives while in your care.

Copy your VHS videos and tapes before it's too late
14 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
Some of us find it really hard to let go of our VHS and audio tapes, filled with all those old skool memories and movie greats such as Bird on a Wire, Things to Do in Denver When You're dead and the many, many Channel 4 recordings from the early 90s. It's been brought to our attention a VHS and audio tape eating mould is attacking videos and tapes up and down the country, destroying all your precious video favourites, rendering them unwatchable and unplayable. Although, it's more than likely this is a PR ploy designed to make their VHS and audio tape copying product - the Pinnacle Dazzle Video Recorder - sound more useful and appealing.

MacBook Air Now Available for the Poor
15 hours ago THEGADGETBLOG --
The MacBook Air experience: take away the design, and you’re left with the portability and Mac OS X. That’s what the katexter has, thanks to his Hackintosh conversion of his MSI Wind. He (or she) claims it starts Word faster than a 2.4Ghz iMac, and more or less complete functionality:
What works: 1024×600 screen, Ethernet, USB [...]

Zpen: A Touch of Humanity in The Digital Era
17 hours ago GADGETSPY -- In spite of the fact that I do tend to favor modern technology, I also do miss those times when I used to write notes in class to pass around or send letters to friends in other countries. The Zpen can provide some sort of a hybrid between personalization and technology.
Zpen has the capability to [...]
Clueless, Mean Girls and Pretty in Pink to be made into video games
17 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
Part of me is wishing, hoping and praying this is some kind of joke. That is, unless the games are aimed at *very* young girls, or is some kind of PR stunt for a sequel or new teen flick. According to
Catwalk Queen, Clueless, Pretty in Pink and Mean Girls are to undergo a make-over and be transformed into budget computer games. The fact they're being called budget games lowers the appeal even more - a budget computer game doesn't sound like it's going to give you the most thrilling gaming experience now does it?

The Mimobot craze continues: Final Star Wars series 3 Mimobot revealed

Star Wars and Mimobot fans have been trying to guess the identity of the fourth Star Wars Mimobot series 3 character for *ages*. Well the guessing game is finally over. *Drum roll*. C-3PO has been revealed as the fourth Star Wars Mimobot series three character (and therefore the last) to join the likes of Wicket, the scary looking Darth Sidious and the Emperor's Royal Guard. Who doesn't love Luke Skywalker's golden protocol droid and his fussy and worry-prone personality?

How Hot Girls Market a Bikini
18 hours ago THEGADGETBLOG -- The LG Bikini that is. Sometime ago, LG found the perfect excuse to feature scantily-clad hotties, and that was to name its KF600 model the Bikini.
It’s a great plan actually, which gave the Korean manufacturer license to feature nameless women back at home (pictured above), and a more visually distinctive half-Singaporean for the world. Continue [...]
The So iCE my721x: Sagem is trying to be cool
19 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
Sagem are really trying to pull all the stops out with their latest handset, and they've come up with a sleek lightweight phone for the T-Mobile PAYG market. It weighs in at a tiny 90g, and is 12.6mm thick. They've used a brushed aluminium design to make it look high end, and it gives the phone a really nice finish.

Get Creative with the ZEN Mozaic, an artistic looking MP3 player
20 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
Creative always do well in the portable audio field, so it's no surprise their latest device is one fine looking piece of kit. Called the Mozaic, it looks a cross between a child's jigsaw puzzle and a piece of contemporary art, and comes in three colours to boot. But that's enough on the design, what are the specs like?

How addicted to your phone are you?
21 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
When the warning signs are indicating a dead battery is imminent, or even worse it dies completely, do you feel cut off from humanity and pretty much feel like it's the end of the world? Another common occurrence amongst phone fanatics is working yourself in to a frenzied panic, while frantically searching for your phone in your bag/pockets/anywhere, only to realise it's lost... forever. Is this sounding familiar - does this describe you?

Favourite story of the day: Zune guy gets his tattoos removed
22 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
A lesson in fandom here - beware when you choose your geek tattoo, as it might just be that the product you're so keen on becomes an albatross around your neck within months. Zune Guy, who pledged his allegiance to the Zune with four tattoos to that effect, has decided to get them removed.

ISPs agree to throttle broadband of illegal file sharers. ISPs suck.
23 hours ago SHINYSHINY --
Big news on the internet front - ISPs are going to start taking action against customers they believe are sharing music illegally. BT, Virgin Media, Orange, Tiscali, Sky and Carphone Warehouse will all be sending out letters to people warning them of this development. After this, the offenders might see their bandwidth being throttled, or even a block put on the downloading of media files.

Bounce to the beat with Dr Dre's headphones
Thursday, 24 July 2008 SHINYSHINY --
This is a new one for me - rap artists bringing out their own headphones. The rapper in question, is the master of chronic, Dr Dre. So you get to rock out to one of the greatest rappers of all time with the nicely named Beats headphones. Or if you're not a fan of the artist but totally love the headphones, I guess you're not obligated to listen to his tunes. Apparently the headphones are like what a Bentley is to cars, and for $350 USD, I should bloody well think so too. So, we've already established the headphones are luxurious and high quality, but what else?

Shiny Review: PURE One Mini DAB radio

Unwrap the time with the Betsey Johnson bow watch
Wednesday, 23 July 2008 SHINYSHINY --
Enter the weird and quirky world of Betsey Johnson. It's pretty safe to say you really have to have a thing for bows or cutsie accessories to want this watch. Shaped to look like a black bow (which it totally pulls off), the watch is a little more than obtrusive. The actual watch is hidden underneath the centre of the bow, which flips up to reveal the time as well as a hidden mirror for applying make-up/picking spots. It's completely water resistant too, so if your friends or siblings 'accidentally' drop it in some water, it will survive the attack.

An eye controlled music player: The real eye pod
Wednesday, 23 July 2008 SHINYSHINY --
If you thought the prospect of mind controlled gaming was too much information for your geeky little brain to take. Get ready to take in another bit of futuristic technology news. Although the man in the picture and his equipment look slightly deranged and a tad wacky, it's all for a very good reason. He's controlling his portable music player with his eyes - yes, with his eyes! The custom made headphones, with powerful microchips, have been designed by a Japanese researcher, who also features in the pictures. This is no joke my friends, this eccentric but *real* breakthrough in portable music players can really be controlled solely by rolling your eyes.
